A GLIMPSE OF ACADEMIC ACHIEVEMENTS

With high expectation and academic rigour, the students of Santiniketan started their journey through the Academic year 2018-2019 on 7th June, 2018. The academic prowess of the students was proved with the 100 percentage success from Grade I to VII. And the students added yet another golden feather by achieving centum in various subjects. It was a moment of great pride when students of VI and VII secured 100 percent victory in Spell Bee and Olympiad examinations.


ANNUAL EVENTS AND CELEBRATIONS

This year’s events and celebrations got kick started with the observation of WORLD ENVIRONMENT DAY on June 5th. It was merged with the inauguration of Eco Club aimed to educate students on the ill effects of environmental degradation.


The Annual Election was organized to select the senate of the academic year 2018-2019 held on 15th June, 2018. Students of Grade VI and VII unanimously elected V.G. Suryani and Sudhir S as school Head Girl and Head Boy respectively. The much awaited event of the year. The Investiture Ceremony was held on 22 June, 2018. The newly elected senate members were adorned with sashes. It instilled leadership qualities in students.


Doctors’ Day was celebrated. Dr.Sukumar, Cardiologist in Theni addressed the students on ‘Healthy Living’.


Inter House Foot Ball Tournament commenced in the month of July. The Yellow House emerged as the winner. On July 27, 2018 the students of Santiniketan too joined the nation in commemorating the death anniversary of A.P.J. Abdul Kalam, the People’s President. Our school celebrated the 72nd Independence Day with great fervor and enthusiasm. It was extreme pleasure and honour to have Mr.A.Santhanavel, a retired army man as the Chief Guest on this occasion. We saluted our mother land by hoisting the tri colour flag. Patriotic song, pledge, declamation, a scintillating dance performance by the students filled everyone’s heart with patriotism.


Photography Day was celebrated on 19th August. To commemorate the day the students buzzed around the campus and captured the scenic beauty of our campus. In commemoration of the birth anniversary of Dr. Radha Krishnan, the great academician and former president of our nation, we celebrated Teachers’ Day in our school on 5th September 2018. Various programs organized by the students made the day a cherishable one. Transcending the shadow lines of caste, culture and religion, our school celebrated Onam with great fervor and enthusiasm.


Gandhi Jayanthi was celebrated on 2nd October, 2018 to mark the birth anniversary of the father of our Nation who is an inspiration into the lives of the famous world leaders.


International Day of the Girl Child was observed on 11th October. The main objective of the celebration was to highlight and address the needs and challenges faced by girls.


On October 15th, 2018, Global Hand Washing Day was observed. The students were motivated to improve their hand washing habits. India is a land of festivals which weaves into religious and cultural mosaic of our country. One such festival is Diwali. The students of Santiniketan Public School pledged to celebrate No Pollution Diwali and said No to Fire Crackers.


The Children’s Day was celebrated on November 14, 2018, in memory of Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru. Various competitions and cultural programs were organized.


Christmas Celebration: To set a perfect example of secularism, we celebrated Christmas and New Year with lot of fun and laughter. Students performed a skit and sang carols during the celebration.


Republic Day Celebration: The 71st Republic Day of the nation was celebrated with the spirit of patriotism. The Chief Guest hoisted the flag and it was followed by cultural programs and march-past.


Sports Day: The Annual Sports Day held on 19th January 2019. The students enthusiastically participated for both team and individual events. To honour the occasion the Chief Guest was Mr. Arjun Harish, Superintendent of Police, Theni District. With great zeal and enthusiasm the students of Santiniketan Public School celebrated Agni Fest-2019, a cultural gala in the month of February. This celebration provides a platform for students to showcase their talents. Competitions such as Quiz, Mental Math Quiz, Spello’ Fun, Tableau, Creative Streaks, See and Draw, Painting, Collage, Dance, Art from Waste were organized.

ANNUAL DAY :

On 13th January, Santiniketan Public School celebrated their 1st Annual Day with great enthusiasm and zeal. The entire school participated whole heartedly towards the success of this grand event. Mr. Arjun Harish was the esteemed guest of honour for the event. In his speech he emphasized on Moral Education, responsibility of students towards their parents and also towards the nation.


The event started off with a prayer song and many impeccable performances by the students across different grades were the highlight of the programme. Finally the vote of thanks was delivered by the school captain Suryani V G. This was followed by the National Anthem as a tribute to our nation.



CLUB ACTIVITIES

To hone latent skills in Co-Scholastic areas, students of Grade III to Grade VII are provided structured activities. Experts and professionals are invited to interact with the students. The club activities are as follows:


Social Service Club: The club took initiative to collect funds and clothes for the leprosy patients. Horlicks, bed sheets and fruits were also given to the patients, who were below poverty line in government hospital, Theni. Stationery items were donated to students studying in government schools.


Science Club: It was inaugurated on the birth anniversary of Missile Man of India, Dr.A.P.J. Abdul Kalam. A missile launch competition was organized by Raven Technology. Science Exhibition which was themed on Water Alarm System and Sewage Purification was organized to showcase the scientific fervor of the students.


Reading Club: This club was set up with a purpose of fostering reading skills in students. A fully stocked library was set in I Block to encourage students reading skill. A system of ‘Class Library’ exists from Grade III to Grade VII where in every students brings one story book from home. The students manage the library themselves, issuing and returning the books during the English period.


Maths Club: This club plays an important role in motivating the students to learn mathematics with interest and involvement. It helps in developing heuristic and problem solving attitude among the students. Mental Maths Quiz was conducted periodically and Abacus training was given to enhance better and faster calculation skills.


Health and Wellness Club: This club was inaugurated on the occasion of Doctors’ Day on July 1, 2018. Dr.Sukumar, a renowned cardiologist in Theni was invited as guest speaker. A one day program on meditation was organized Mr.Dev Anand, faculty of Oneness and One World Academy trained the students to develop their inner strength.


Quiz Club: General knowledge contributes to personal enrichment and a better understanding of the world. The quiz club trains the budding quizzers in various fields like academic, general knowledge, analytical abilities, quantitative reasoning etc.


Eco Club: This Club trains the students to be conscious about the environment. Various initiatives were taken up to spread awareness about the environmental degradation. This club ensures the active participation of students in environment related issues.




FORMATION OF COMMITTEE:

The following are the committees that are set for the personal development and well being of students.

• POCSO Committee


• Grievance Committee


These committees have been constituted for ensuring safe, secure and supportive environment for the students. Meetings at regular intervals were organized by the committee members to discuss the grievance and complaints of the students.



NEW VENTURES :

Science Lab: Well equipped and modernized laboratories are available for better understanding of the complexity and ambiguity of empirical work and to develop practical skills.


Language Lab: Smart Lab with extensive language learning materials in audio and video formats has been installed to engage the students to participate in language learning exercises.


ICT Lab: Our school has a Computer Lab with broad band internet connection. Equipped with latest hardware and software, our computer lab provides an excellent ambience and opportunity to learn and master ICT skills from the basic to the advanced levels.


Library: A new library exclusively for children of middle school has been set.


EXTRA - CURRICULAR ACTIVITIES

Our school gives many opportunities for all the students to participate in variety of Co-curricular and extra-curricular activities. Participation in these activities will not only help the students to develop their talents but also inculcates a spirit of healthy competition in them. It also teaches them the values of co-operation and sportsmanship, making them more disciplined and organized individuals. The school arranges extra-curricular classes on every Friday. The following are the extra-curricular activities available in our school.

Students from Grade I to Grade VII can select the activities to suit their interest.


SCHOOL HEALTH SERVICES:

Our school is equipped with first aid amenities. A well maintained infirmary takes care of minor exigencies.


De-worming tablets are issued to the students periodically. Vaccines for DPT and MMR were given in accordance with routine vaccination program.


Awareness on Dengue was organized to educate the children about the causes and effects of the diseases. Regular counseling for slow learners was given by Mrs.Muhil Amritha Raj, Senior Psychologist, Madurai.


EDUCATIONAL TRIPS:

An educational trip for students is to reinforce experiential and contextual learning. It is a way of enhancing classroom learning by making real world connections. The students of Grade VI and Grade VII were taken to Tuticorin. The students were awestruck to see the remarkable feat of engineering. The students of Grade IV and Grade V were taken to L.S.Mills in Theni. The students were briefed about the various process involved in spinning. The whole industry was digitized, automated and technologically advanced. The primary school students were taken to a nearby farm, where they picked fruits and vegetables. They also observed the process of milking.


SPECIAL REMEDIAL CLASSES:

The school has taken the initiative to conduct the Remedial Phase for students from Grade III to Grade VII. This phase will be beneficial for the students as it will help to develop their vocabulary and thinking skills. This will build their self-confidence and they will be motivated towards learning.


COMMUNITY SERVICES:

Community Service plays a vital role in sensitizing the students right from their childhood. Our students donated funds for leprosy patients. A public awareness rally for Dengue was organized. We also donated stationery supplies for under privileged children in government schools. The students were also taken to the nearby government hospital to understand the harsh realities of life and thereby mingle with them and treat them with respect. The students distributed horlicks, bed sheets and fruits to the patients, who were below the poverty line.



ACCOLADES IN SPORTS AND GAMES

• Badminton open tournament was conducted in Theni district and L.Shasvatha of V standard participated in the district level and secured 1st place in it.

• Badminton tournament was held in Chennai and S.Sanjay kesav VI standard participated and came to 9th place in the state level championship.

• State level Badminton competition was held in Madurai where L.Sanjayramdev of VII standard participated and entered the quarterfinal. • R.Lohan of VII standard participated in the District level under 14 championship in Cumbum.

• Theni S.S club conducted a state level Badminton Tournament in Theni S.N Jaisurya of class VII won the 4th place

• In Theni district level skating tournament Sri Maha Aravindth of class V participated In under 14 category.

• D.Kavin of class V participated in district level skating tournament which was held in Theni district. He won the 8th place out of 24 teams participated.

• Pennycuick chess academy of Markayankottai conducted a chess tournament of under 12 category and M.Shashvanth of V standard bagged the 2nd place.

• In the same tournament R. Srivishnu of class VII won the 11th place in under 14 category.

• Theni chess academy conducted a district level tournament and S.Sudhir of class VII won the 3rd place in under 12 category.

• K.Dharaneeshkrishna of class VI participated in the lions club chess competition which was held at NRT Nagar, Theni, and came to 9 th place.

• A state level karate competition was held at Kovilpatty and P.V Sai Hrithik of class V participated in it.

• R.Karuppasamy of VI Standard participated in the karate competition held at Bodinayakanur.

• N.Harsikaa of class VI participated in the karate competition and won the 3rd place which was held at Theni.

• N.A Snehan bagged the C.M trophy 1st place in the swimming competition which was held at Theni in under 12 category.

• M.Abdul Khani of VII standard participated in MSSC table tennis and CBSE cluster competition which was held in Madurai.

• V. Dharshini of VI standard participated in the state level Table Tennis Tournament and won the 1st place. The tournament was held in Kanyakumari.

• Interschool competition like Mallar Kambam, Football, Volleyball, Badminton, Kho-Kho, Basketball were held in the school premises to during the annual sports day.



TEACHER ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME

• Santiniketan Public School makes it a point to develop and grow the skills of teachers by conducting various teachers’ enrichment programmes.

• In order to enhance the Spoken English of the teachers, a spoken English training programme was conducted by Mr.Vishnu from Voice Training and research institute.

• Training on new educational technologies was conducted by the Next Education resource person, Dr.Leema Rosline.

• A workshop on “classroom teaching and classroom management” was conducted for teachers by Mr.Vineeth Kumar from Next Education. The workshop was attended by all the teachers of Grade I to VII. The workshop was useful in understanding the importance of effective classroom management.

• Santiniketan Public School organized an interesting session of Yoga and fitness for the well being and good health of its teachers. It was conducted by Dr. Deva Anand from Oneness and One World Academy. The trainees encourage the teachers to practice regular Yoga to remain fit and improve concentration.

• A seminar on Development of Child Psychology held on 27th of October emphasized the importance of psychological stability and adequate mental growth in children. The resource person was Dr. Gomez Sophia, Assistant Professor, Jeyaraj College. The Seminar was attended by all the teachers.

• Student progress assessment training was conducted by Mr. Anand Babu on June 25th. The teachers from LKG to VIIth standard attended the training and the resource person guided the teachers on how to assess the children based on their mental and chronological age.

• Dr.Rosemol Iqnatious from Mother Teresa College enlightened the teachers on child labour. The awareness programme was conducted on 14th of April and the teachers of Classes I to VII attended the programme.

• A workshop on enhancing the formatting skills of teachers was conducted by Mr. Anand Babu from Next Education on 18th of August in the school campus.

• Mr. Saleth Maria Doss S. attended the Regional Conference for Principals of CBSE Schools in Chennai on 11th and 12th October. The theme of the conference was Empowering Schools for social change.

• Mr. Saleth Maria Doss S. attended the Capacity Building Programme on Classroom Management. It was organized by the CBSE Headquarters, Chennai on 26th and 27th of October.

• Mr.Kannan R attended the Capacity Building Programme on value education which held at Dindigul on 26th October.

• Mr. Suriymurthi C attended the Capacity Building Programme on Classroom Management. The programme was organized by CBSE, headquarters. It was held on 16th and 17th of November at Sadhana Central School, Madurai.

• Mrs. Jansi Rani V attended a one day English Language Teaching workshop conducted by Dr.Gayatri Khanna on 24th November.



STUDENTS ENRICHMENT PROGRAMME


• An international Spell Bee examination was held in the school campus to impact English language skills by applying a unique learning model in strategic language enhancement. All the students of classes 1 to 7th participated in it.

• International Math Olympiad is held annually in the school to develop their skills in the field of Mathematics and all the students of classes 1 to 7th participated in it.

• Global Drawing Competition was held in the school premises to develop the artistic skills of the children and improve their imagination.

• A workshop on “How to successfully prepare for Examination” for Grade V to VII held on 1st December by Psychologist Mrs.Mukhil, Ahana Hospital, Madurai.

• A session on importance of Mental Health and pastime psychology was attended by students of 6th and 7th on 9th of August. Mrs.Divya N. Kumar, the senior psychologist enlightened the students.

• A life skill session on problem solving methods was organized by the school for the students of classes 4th to 7th on 5th September. Thought provoking group discussions were made.

• A missile launch competition held in the school premises on 16th November to develop their scientific approach and making science interesting. All the students participated enthusiastically.

• An attempt to equip children to face pressure and problem of life, a workshop on Life Skills and peer pressure was organized for the students of classes 5, 6 and 7 on 18th January, 2019.

• Dr. Deva Anand, faculty in Oneness and One World facilitated of classes 1 to 5 on spiritual development and importance of yoga.

The right ambience is needed in imparting quality education. A great deal of thought has gone into transforming brick walls and concrete slabs into environment friendly buildings of Santiniketan Public School.
